ArtFixDaily.com featured a painting from our booth at the very top of their coverage of the ADAA Art Show, writing:
“This year’s fair also featured masterworks of American Modernism, including Alfred Maurer‘s Still Life with Pears and Indian Bowl, c. 1928, at the booth of Menconi + Schoelkopf. Maurer will soon be riding a wave of renewed interest. The first comprehensive examination of the artist’s work will go on view at Addison Gallery, in Andover, Mass., this Spring. A new book on Maurer from Yale University Press (released March 10) accompanies the exhibition.”

“Art Basel in Miami Beach has a challenging new element called ‘Survey.’ An ‘art-historical’ section, it contains just 13 shows, some solo and some thematic. Displaying names both strange and familiar, from places as far-flung as Uruguay and Tokyo, it aims to provide mid-20th-century context to the contemporary work on view elsewhere: many of these artists, as Art Basel director Marc Spiegler explains, were models and mentors to today’s better-known names.
“If its aim is to boost the academic quotient, in the midst of the selling frenzy of the rest of the fair, it succeeds: the lists contain enough ‘-ists’ and ‘-isms’ to satisfy any academic. ‘Precisionism,’ anyone? That is, as if you didn’t know, ‘a uniquely American Modernist movement,’ and celebrated chez Menconi + Schoelkopf with work by Canadian artist Ralston Crawford….”
The Financial Times mentioned Menconi + Schoelkopf in their wrap-up of the art market this week, highlighting the George Bellows Portrait of Florence Budd that will be featured at the upcoming Spring Masters fair.
Bloomberg News interviewed Menconi + Schoelkopf’s Jonathan Spies for a piece on artists whom the market may be undervaluing. Reporter Katya Kazakina focused on Charles Biederman, whose work is being discovered by a new generation of collectors and curators.
